In 1981, sensing an opportunity, the first Optik Melawai outlet opened in the same location as Apotik Melawai, providing optical services and products to the public. Like Apotik Melawai and Sate Khas Senayan, the business was run on customer-friendly principles, with a focus on quality products.

Today, Melawai Group's businesses comprise an Optical & Hearing Aid divison, a complementary Pharmacy, and Food & Beverage. Melawai Group businesses are present in almost every major city in Indonesia.

A second-generation family-held business, Melawai Group has nonetheless adopted professional management strategies and brought in outside professionals within a clearly defined organizational structure.
